Freelance Editor – Trucking

Job Description:

The Editor on Trucking will be responsible for the content and overall editorial direction of this respected road transport publication, the print magazine is published 13 times a year (every 4 weeks). The Editor will be responsible for all forward planning, commissioning, and budgeting of content that may be published via multiple channels, on page, online, social media or other brand spin-offs.  The Editor will also be expected to liaise with other departments for the benefit of the brand; these related departments include commercial, retail, subscriptions and marketing but may include others. The Editor will also be required to visit shows and advertisers to assist Kelsey’s advertising teams in generating revenue. Regular meetings will be required to discuss forward feature plans and any advertising deals. Ideally the Editor will have knowledge and experience in the road transport, haulage, and logistics industry.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Working with fellow editorial contributors, the Editor oversees all editorial content for Trucking and planning within the agreed budgets
  • Work with the Designer to steer design, look and feel of all brand platforms
  • To generate editorial ideas and content that assist the advertising department in maximizing profitable revenue earning potential within the agreed commercial strategy of the brand
  • Hold regular meetings with the Publisher to discuss editorial developments, ad related issues and other commercial ventures, eg events. These meetings can also be a good arena to discuss new ideas; this should include editorial ideas that can span across multiple platforms including print and digital channels
  • Adhere strictly to the production schedule and agreed production processes
  • Manage relationships between contributors, advertising sales personnel and advertisers
  • Attends shows and events where relevant and/or there is commercial need
  • Act as a spokesperson for the brand when required to do so
